TIM BIDDLE ON DESIGNING SUFFOLK SHORTS AND WHY PB STUDIO BACKS THE FESTIVAL

Tim Biddle from PB Studio shares why the studio sponsors Suffolk Shorts, how design shapes the festival’s identity, and why visual storytelling matters for emerging filmmakers.

I’m a graphic designer and illustrator at Pb Studio, a creative agency based in Norfolk and the primary sponsor of the Suffolk Shorts Film Festival.

Through this connection, I’ve been able to support the festival and contribute to its visual identity.

I originally studied illustration, which I absolutely loved. It gave me a real understanding of how to create imagery that doesn’t just look good but also tells a story. That idea of storytelling through visuals was what excited me the most and it eventually led me into graphic design. At its core, graphic design is about exactly that: communicating ideas and stories through images.

Over the years I’ve worked with brands across a wide range of industries, from pharma to food and drink to film. No matter the client, budget or sector, the aim is always the same. It’s about communication. Whether that’s through the choice of typeface, colour, composition or overall style, every element needs to be carefully considered and crafted to create work that is both memorable and effective.

Like many things in the creative world, these principles overlap strongly with film. Film is another powerful form of visual storytelling, which is why it feels like such an honour to work on the branding and design for Suffolk Shorts Film Festival.

What makes it even more rewarding is the chance to collaborate with other passionate creative people and help showcase new talent. A strong brand can play an important role in that. It can help elevate the festival, give it a clear identity and create a sense of pride among everyone involved. That includes the filmmakers entering their work, the partners and volunteers who help make it happen, and of course the audience who come to watch the films.

Being able to contribute to something that celebrates creativity and storytelling in this way is something I’m really proud to be part of.
