Truth be told by Paul Greengrass

On Saturday 26th April 7pm Suffolk Shorts will present Truth be Told, an evening of short films at The Cut in partnership with INK Festival. The programme will be followed by a discussion with Director Paul Greengrass, hosted by Tom Shone who is publishing his book “The Greengrass Papers” in November 2025. Released to coincide with his 13th feature, The Lost Bus, the book reveals how Greengrass came to be venerated as a game-changing director.

We all love a tag line and the book is described as: SECRETS AND LIES. CONSPIRACY AND COVER UP. TIPPING POINT AND REVOLUTION. Where the redactions end, a Paul Greengrass film begins.

This is the first time he has been involved in a book around his work, and he has given exclusive access to Tom Shone to share the story of the revolution he brought to Hollywood filmmaking. Here’s your chance to hear the stories from the horse’s mouth, in Halesworth.

A veteran of the groundbreaking current affairs programme, World in Action, Greengrass uses documentary techniques to imbue his thrillers and docudramas with the heat and crackle of chaotic, fast-moving, real-life events.

“As well as a portrait of a filmmaker, The Greengrass Papers is a deep-dive into espionage, assassination and the political violence that Greengrass has laid bare in his films, bringing these worlds to the screen with more visceral power than any other British director working today.”

We have chosen a programme of short films, from our Official Selection archive to reflect the fine line between fact and fiction. We have included a Swedish film which gently observes that life must go on in spite of experienced traumas and shattered families, an animation about the impact of COVID on traditional funerals and a stunning drama from 2018 about a car called Sylvia.
